🔧 P0355 – Ignition Coil 5 Control Circuit
What Does the P0355 Code Mean?
Modern vehicles use individual ignition coils for each cylinder to ensure precise spark timing and efficient combustion. The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls these coils by sending ON/OFF signals that trigger the spark plugs.
When the ECM detects an issue in the control circuit for ignition coil #5, it sets the diagnostic trouble code P0355. This indicates a malfunction in the electrical path that manages coil 5’s operation.
⚠️ Symptoms of P0355
- Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated
- Misfire in cylinder 5
- Rough idle or poor acceleration
- Reduced fuel economy
- Possible engine stalling
🔍 Causes of P0355
- Scan for codes and confirm P0355 is present.
- Inspect coil #5 and its wiring for damage or corrosion.
- Swap test: Move coil #5 to another cylinder. If the misfire moves, the coil is faulty.
- Test voltage and ground at the coil connector using a multimeter.
- Replace coil or wiring as needed. If all components are fine, ECM may need inspection.
✅ Can You Drive With P0355?
Driving with this code is not recommended. Misfires can damage the catalytic converter and lead to further engine issues. Prompt diagnosis and repair will prevent costly damage.
